KCH Student Comes Full Circle and Becomes Sponsor

Kids Connection Haiti reached an important milestone in 2020.

Jackson Prerius, Country Director at KCH, became the first Haitian donor to sponsor a KCH student.

Jackson came to KCH in 2010 as one of our first students. Through our program, he was able to attend college and graduated in 2014 with a degree in Community Development. He has worked for KCH for five years, first as program coordinator and now in a leadership role. He inspires our growing team with his endless positivity and wisdom.

Now, he is giving back to KCH by sponsoring a student.

“KCH gave me a spot for going to college and that changed my life,” Jackson says. “Then I understood how it is important for giving, for providing sponsorship for young people to go to school.”

Sponsoring a student is a rewarding way to change a life while investing in Haiti. It costs just $164 a month on average to cover a student’s monthly expenses. This includes housing, transportation, food, mentoring, as well as schooling. This also includes access to medical care. The total annual cost for our high-quality, life-changing program is just $1,977. Several of our students have four sponsors, each contributing $41 each month.

We have a waiting list of students in need of sponsors so they can go to school.

While our students wait, they attend workshops, learn life skills, participate in career development, and serve their community. They are able to grow and thrive, but their lives are missing a key component: education. Without an education, their opportunities are limited, and they cannot reach their full potential. Haiti needs more educated young people to build a brighter future for the country.

We are thrilled that Jackson is giving back through sponsoring a student, and we look forward to more alumni achieving financial independence so they can sponsor a student. Until then, we need more sponsors, so more young Haitians will have the opportunities Jackson had.

“I am very happy to become the first Haitian sponsor,” Jackson says. “With your sponsorship, we can change millions of lives in Haiti. If I can do it, you can do it.”
