Workshops help students learn missing skills

Growing up without parents or in unstable family situations can leave a young person with an incomplete knowledge of how to successfully navigate life as an adult. Basically, they’re missing key skills and unfortunately, these topics aren’t usually taught in traditional school. That’s why we supplement their formal education with workshops that are created and led by our staff and sometimes older students.

Our students learn life skills that they might not learn otherwise, like problem solving, study skills, goal setting, mutual respect, and more.

In their last year, students participate in career development training to increase the chance to find their chances at finding employment. They also learn how to write resumes and cover letters, how to interview, and how to find internship opportunities.

Our girls participate in “No means No” training, menstrual health education, and International Women’s Day. We help them understand that they don’t have to trade sexual favors to get a job or advance in their career.

Workshops happen year-round for students and keep them learning even when formal school is not in session. They love the extra chance to learn and we’re happy to give it to them!
