When only one can go to school

When Malaika was in 10th grade, her mom told her: 'I'm sorry, honey, this was your last school year. Your little sister is starting school, and I can't pay for both of you.' It was Malaika's greatest fear and though she understood, she was crushed. Her dreams shattered.

In the poorest areas of Haiti, a situation like this is very common. Most schools are private, and even public schools cost money. When you come from extreme poverty, it is more likely than not that you will drop out of school involuntarily.

Imagine the joy when Malaika found out that she was accepted into Kids Connection Haiti!

This is the beginning of Malaika's success story. Malaika is now in 11th grade, and she has access to health- and dental care, life skills workshops, career development training and will enter trade school once she graduates from high school.

A life that used to look bleak and desperate, has turned into a bright, joyful, and hopeful future.   It is thanks to the compassion of people like you, that we can give young adults like Malaika this opportunity.

Thank you for being part of the Kids Connection Haiti family. Your support is life- changing!

Gratefully,

Astrid de Vries - Founder Kids Connection Haiti

Success story: Sandy

Sandy and her siblings grew up in extreme poverty.  She dreamt of starting a clinic for people in the countryside where health care is almost non-existent, but there was no money for school.

Her older brother, who had just become an accountant thanks to Kids Connection Haiti, introduced Sandy to our program.

Sandy applied and was thrilled to be accepted. Sandy could finally work toward her goal! She worked hard as a student, overcame many obstacles and graduated as a licensed nurse.

Today, Sandy is fully employed at a hospital in Fond Parisien (in the countryside) and is taking the first steps toward starting her own clinic.

Her dream came through - thanks to the kindness of people like you. ❤️

Please pray for the Haitian people. Port-au-Prince has been terrorized by gangs for over three years. People are scared to walk in the streets, kidnappings occur frequently, homes are burnt down, and many innocent people have lost their lives. Though we feel blessed with every success story, it's been more than challenging. The fight for freedom, peace and justice is far from being over.
