Open Letter to KCH: "Expression of my gratefulness for your support"

The author of this letter, one of our students, grew up in a slum in Haiti. Being the eldest of five siblings, raised by a mom who never had the chance to go to school, his story is incredibly touching and shows extreme resilience. Having to take care of his siblings, in times of hunger, violence, and desperation, this young man, with intelligence, integrity and perseverance, managed to finish high school, after which he entered the KCH program. We found a student grant through the JDT Foundation and not only are we very proud of him, we are also extremely touched by the following acknowledgement. Subject: Expression of my gratefulness for your support

Dear leaders and friends,

Through this letter, I would like to thank you and express my deepest feelings to you as well as those who are part of, the staff of Kids Connections Haiti (KCH), close or far. Amongst all NGO’s providing assistance to the most vulnerable people in the Haitian community, this organization, I can tell you, is unique in its kind, in the manner how it participates in the improvement of the conditions of life in our community. If we imagine a possibility which would allow a country to develop, education remains one of the most fundamental elements. "Education is the most powerful weapon you can use to change the world." says Nelson Mandela. In this light we will emphasize the contribution of KCH and we would like to ask the founder to continue this mission on the one hand and the young beneficiaries on the other hand, to enjoy the opportunity offered by this organization.

I am arriving at the end of four years of hard work where we have made great sacrifices of all kinds. This experience was only made possible through your help and your never tiring companionship. After all, if now I'm a professional, it is undoubtedly thanks to you. I consider my words too weak to express my recognition and gratitude, but obviously, I ask you to take them into account.

Although now, I am not a full beneficiary of KCH any longer, I think that I will always be a child of this family. The members of this family can now definitely expect much more from me than I expect of them, because now I'm a senior; and as the eldest of a family, I should bring what is necessary to the development of the family in question. Of all means that we can offer, not only finances but psychological support, morale, affection and many others, are essential as well. Hence, I realize that at this moment this family is so dear to me and I'm really proud to be part of it.

Now, my words of thanks are addressed first to Astrid, -dare I say it this way- because I consider you not only my superior or an important character within the organizational structure of KCH, eminently high compared to my simple student status, but I consider you as a mother, a mentor etc. I would just stop here, because you know already what you mean to me in my life. Am I not right? And without wanting to be too over the top about your humble generosity, you occur to me so bright and full of energy, as a radius from the light of the sun awakening in me, which made me what I have become today. 

Thanks to Dave who, as well as Astrid, appreciated me, loved and supported me, during my four years of study. Dave, you are for me a father, an uncle, a brother, a friend. You are a person that I will never forget, for whom I have great respect and for whose friendship I am very grateful. I believe that I'm not the only one among the students, to envy you, in your qualifications. I would like that you always bring your support to KCH so that this organization can continue to blow a wind of hope for the future of young Haitians waiting so eagerly for this rescue that I have grown to know so well. I embrace you very hard!

I also thank all those who passed as national coordinator in this project. I am referring now to Chris, Lee Ally, Travis, Rebecca, Lucardo, Frantz, Fiona and Roland, the Wiseman, our current coordinator. All the people I mentioned, one way or another, have supported me greatly either by their moral support or by their advice. I learned a lot from them and I'm very grateful for it.

A special thank you is sent also to all friends, donors, supporters and others which, in one way or another, relate to KCH and offer their aid and their financial support, because without them, the actions of this organization cannot blossom. 

It would be incomplete to end my presentation without having mentioned my friends, brothers and sisters of KCH, I am talking about all students benefiting from the educational and vocational support program of this organization and without distinctions between genders, they all deserve my gentle appreciation, respect and attention. Thanks to you!

In short, thank you tremendously from the depths of my heart. I could go on and on to express my satisfaction, my pride, my happiness, my love for you all. As it is often said: Everything good must come to an end, thus I will simply put an end to this epistle.

Lettre ouverte au Kids Connection Haiti (KCH)

Objet : Manifestation de sentiments en vue de vous remercier pour votre complaisance.

Chers Responsables et amis,  

Je tiens à vous adresser cette correspondance laquelle fera l’objet de mes remerciements et de mes sentiments les plus profonds tant à votre égard qu’à celui de ceux qui font partie de près ou de loin du staff du Kids Connections Haïti (KCH). De toutes les ONGs qui s’accordent de venir en aide aux gens les plus vulnérables de la communauté haïtienne, cet organisme, je peux vous le dire, est unique en son genre vue à la manière dont il participe à l’amélioration des conditions de vie de notre collectivité. Si l’on imagine une éventuelle possibilité qui permettrait à un pays de se développer, l’éducation reste et demeure l’un des éléments les plus fondamentaux, « l’éducation est l’arme la plus puissante qu’on puisse utiliser pour changer le monde » nous dit Nelson Mandela. Ainsi donc, c’est dans cet ordre d’idée que nous comprendrons l’apport du KCH et pour cela, nous aimerions demander aux responsable de continuer sur cette lignée d’une part et, aux jeunes bénéficiaires de profiter l’occasion offerte par cette dite organisation, d’autre part.

En fait, nous venons arriver au terme de quatre années de dur labeur où nous avons consenti de grands sacrifices de toutes sortes. Cette expérience, pour ainsi  dire, a été franchement rendu possible grâce à vos supports et votre accompagnement sans relâche. Après tout, si maintenant je suis un professionnel, c’est indubitablement grâce à vous. Je considère que mes mots sont trop faibles pour pouvoir vous exprimer ma reconnaissance et ma gratitude, mais de toute évidence, je vous demande de les prendre en compte.

Bien qu’à présent, je ne saurais être considéré comme un bénéficiaire à par entière du KCH, par contre, je pense que je serai toujours un enfant de cette famille, que leurs membres définitivement attendent beaucoup plus de moi au lieu que j’attends d’eux, parce que maintenant je suis un ainé ; et quand on est l’ainé d’une famille, on est devenu donc, aussi bien que les parents, quelqu’un à qui l’on espère apporter de quoi nécessaire au développement de cette famille en question. De tous les supports, en effet, que l’on attend ne résument pas uniquement à une question de finance mais bien aussi à celle qu’on pourrait qualifier de psychologie, de moral, d’affection et bien d’autre encore. Donc, c’est à ce niveau je crois que je serai utile, en ce moment, à cette famille qui m’est si chère et que je suis vachement fier d’en faire partie.

A présent, mes mots de remerciement vont adresser d’abord à Astrid, j’ose le dire de la sorte car je ne te considère non pas seulement comme une supérieure ou un personnage que l’on trouve, selon les normes hiérarchiques qui régissent la structure organisationnelle du KCH, à un niveau éminemment élevé par rapport à mon simple statut d’étudiant bénéficiaire, mais justement comme une mère aussi, une mentor etc. Je ne voudrais pas tout cracher ici, car tu sais bien déjà ce que tu représentes pour moi dans ma vie. N’ai-je pas raison ? Et sans vouloir être trop attractif à votre humble`générosité, tu m’as survenue en qualité d’un rayon lumineux et bourré d’énergie, venant de la lumière du soleil, qui allait faire germer en moi ce que je suis donc devenu aujourd’hui.        

Merci à Dave qui, aussi bien qu’Astrid, m’a tant apprécié, aimé et supporté durant mes quatre ans d’étude. Dave, tu es pour moi un père, un oncle, un frère, un ami. Tu es une personne que je n’oublierai jamais, à qui je dois  beaucoup de respect et que je m’en suis très reconnaissant. Je crois que je ne suis pas le seul, parmi les étudiants, à t’envier, en d’autre termes à vouloir posséder tes qualités. J’aimerais que tu apportes pour toujours tes supports au KCH afin que cette organisation puisse continuer à faire souffler un vent d’espoir et d’avenir dans la vie de quelques jeunes haïtiens qui attendent avec tant d’impatience cet étincelle sauvetage dont moi-même je connais. Je t’embrasse très fort!

Je tiens à remercier aussi, tous ceux qui sont passés comme coordonateur national dans ce projet. A ce stade, je fais référence dorénavant à Chris Copolilo, Lee Allie et Cater Travis, Rebecca, Recardo, Frantz, Neltha, Fluona puis Roland The Wiseman, notre actuel coordonateur. Tous ces gens dont je viens lister leur nom à travers ce paragraphe, d’une manière ou d’une autre, m’ont supporté énormément que ce soit par leur support moral ou par leur conseil. J’ai beaucoup appris d’eux et je m’en suis très reconnaissant de ça.

Un remerciement spécial est adressé aussi à l’intention de tous les amis, les donateurs, les supporteurs et autres qui, d’une manière ou d’une autre, je suppose bien entendu, portent à KCH leurs aides et leurs soutiens financiers et autres que sans lesquels les actions de cette organisation ne sauraient être que de lueur ou d’utopie. 

Il serait donc incompréhensible de ma part si je mettrais un terme à mon exposé sans avoir profité de cette modeste occasion de ne pas adresser également à l’intension de mes frères-amis et sœurs-amies de la KCH, je veux parler de tous les étudiants bénéficiaires du programme d’aide à la formation académico-professionnelle de cette dite organisation et sans distinctions aucunes de sexe ou de genre, mes tendres reconnaissances pour l’appréciation, le respect et l’attention qu’ils ont exprimés à mon égard. Merci à vous !

En somme, je vous remercie énormément et du plus profond de mon cœur. Je pourrais faire couler ici beaucoup d’encre afin de pouvoir vous exprimer tout mon contentement, ma fierté, mon bonheur et mon amour envers vous tous. Comme on dit souvent que toute bonne chose qui se commence doit avoir une fin, ainsi je ne ferai pas autrement que de mettre un terme à ma présente épitre.
