Nathalie is a young lady of nineteen years old, who lives in Delmas, one of the most crowded areas in port-au-Prince. Her mom is a street vendor and sells deep fried food, which barely pays them enough to pay the bills. Nathalie lives with her mom, three brothers and three friends in a house, which used to be made of cloth but recently they were able to rebuild in concrete. The house is not finished but has a cement floor. They do not have water and they do not have enough beds for everyone so they need to share or take turns.Nathalie’s dream is to become a business woman and travel the world and earn enough so that she can support her family. She is worried because her mom is getting old and soon all the financial responsibility will be on her.
Nathalie has not finished her secondary education but is thinking about going to hotel school to study tourism, since that is an area where Haiti hopes to develop more jobs in the near future. Nathalie says that she often goes to bed hungry and every day is a struggle for food. Nathalie is proud of the fact that after the 2010 earthquake she helped at orphanages. She also managed to pay for her own school through little jobs like babysitting, and selling things (tires) on the street.
